CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming epilepsy patients can now apply for hemp extract registration cards through the Wyoming Department of Health.

The department announced Tuesday that qualified patients can apply to use the non-intoxicating marijuana extract cannabidiol.

The state Legislature passed a law earlier this year allowing the state health department to issue cards to adults or parents of children who suffer from "intractable epilepsy," or seizures that don't respond to three or more treatment options overseen by a neurologist.

Seizure patients must submit a packet including an application, a patient evaluation record for the patient's neurologist, proof of Wyoming residency and a $150 application fee to be considered.

The Health Department estimates that 175 residents could qualify for a card.
