Half of Wyo. 2013 Wolf Quota Reached

U.S. Fish and Wildlife

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Hunters have killed half the allowable number of wolves in a trophy hunting area bordering Yellowstone National Park.

Wyoming Game and Fish spokesman Alan Dubberley says the 13 wolves killed so far mark half of this year’s allowable quota of 26 wolves.

The quota last year was set at 52 wolves. Dubberley has said the game department reduced the number this year to stabilize the population at desired levels.

Wolf hunting is prohibited in Yellowstone itself. Wolves outside of the trophy hunting zone in Wyoming are classified as unprotected predators that may be shot on sight.
