Some might say that a sign of intelligence and discipline up stairs, is how they manage their money. Here are 5 spending habits that you can ditch in order to save more.

  1. Budget - When setting a budget, it is important to prioritize. You have to eat and you have to have a place to live, so make sure these two items are on the top of your budget list. Also, make sure you have enough for utility bills, savings, clothing and then entertainment.
  2. House Poor - There are many Americans who are "house poor." It's nice that you have a big and beautiful home, but if that's all you have, then you need to ditch it and get something you can afford. After all, you do have to eat too.
  3. Bank Fees - There may be a small fee for using a banks checking out, but if you're shelling out big bucks to have an account, then you may want to rethink that. It is your money you're giving away, after all.
  4. Shopping Impulses - With the holidays upon us, it is good to set a budget for your over all holiday spending and then divide that by how many people you are buying for. This way you can stay in budget, without being sloppy by impulsively spending. Not a good way to accrue and maintain wealth.
  5. Investments - Some experts say that people invest to conservatively in their younger years. This is a good idea, according to experts, in your older years, but should look at other options in your younger years.
