State and local officials on hand Tuesday morning for the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new stand-alone Chick-fil-A resturant in Cheyenne.

The restaurant, which will be located in front of Menards on Windmill and Dell Range, is the first stand-alone in the state. Chick-fil-A franchise operator Raymond Mefford, who has operated the Chick-fil-A in the Frontier Mall since 2011, will transfer to the new location. The new store is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2015.

The new stand-alone store will have a drive-thru, expanded hours will a full breakfast menu, and an indoor two story playground. The restaurant will also be built to include LEED specifications with water and energy efficiency features, air quality control and waste diversion efforts, among other initiatives, The new restaurant is also expected to provide 80 new jobs to the community.

Mefford said the current store, which has been in the Frontier Mall for 33 years, will remain open.
