Laramie County Fire District #2 was called out to battle a grass fire at 7505 US Highway 30 around 9pm Sunday night, according to district spokesman Lew Simpson.

He says the original report was that the fire was burning in a 200 yard area with no buildings threatened. But due to windy conditions, the fire was spreading east/southeast towards hilly terrain, and brush trucks from district #2 were joined by brush trucks and water tenders from Fire District #1 and the F.E. Warren AFB Fire Department. Simpson says the fire was put out and fire units were able to clear the scene by about 9:45 PM.

A total of 20 acres of grassland was burned. Simpson says preliminary investigation indicates the fire was probably caused by an arcing power transformer near the Cheyenne Hills Church. Simpson says the blaze should remind people about the risk of fire with the current dry conditions that are prevalent in the area.
