A grass fire Sunday afternoon in Cheyenne was put out before it could cause any injuries or serious damage.

But the blaze did at one point come did come close to South and Triumph High Schools. The fire also closed College Drive for a time. The blaze was first reported around 1:20 Sunday afternoon, and firefighters from Laramie County Fire Districts 1&2, Cheyenne Fire&Rescue, F.E. Warren Air Force Base and the Wyoming Air National Guard all responded.

The fire was out by 4 p.m., and in some areas the scorched ground comes within a few feet of either South or Triumph. But firefighters were able to limit the damage to the grass area between the high schools.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
