Governor Matt Mead, in news release,  said that the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed standards for power plant emissions could be "very hurtful to Wyoming " and the entire country. Mead said the proposal likely means that there would be no new coal fired power plants built unless they have carbon capture and sequestration capabilities. Governor Mead said this is concerning because about 40% of the nation’s power comes from coal.  He said Wyoming will look at the proposal closely. The public comment period has not started for this proposed standard yet. Governor Mead said there is a strong likelihood that Wyoming will provide comments.
