POWELL, Wyo. (AP) — A former Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper is suing the owner of a truck that turned in front of his patrol car, causing a head-on crash.

Rodney Miears and his wife Marian, of Cody, sued in federal court Dec. 31. They say the Sysco Montana driver violated safe driving practices.

The crash happened in 2015 at the Yellowstone Valley Inn on U.S. Highway 14/16/20 near Wapiti. Miears was pinned in his car and seeks compensation from Billings, Montana-based Sysco Montana for his injuries.

The Powell Tribune reports Sysco hasn't filed a response to the lawsuit and didn't respond to requests for comment.

Miears returned to full duty in 2016 but retired in 2018 due to his injuries. The driver paid a $65 ticket and is not a defendant in the lawsuit.
