The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued flash flood warning for Albany and Laramie counties.

The warning is for southeastern Albany County and western Laramie County and will be in effect until 7:45 p.m. tonight.

The NWS said that at 4:47 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms were producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to three inches of rain has already fallen and it says flash flooding is expected to begin soon.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Tie City Campground, Vedauwoo, Federal, Crystal Lake Reservoir, Crystal Lake Campground, Vedauwoo Campground, Buford, Granite Springs Reservoir, North Crow Campground, Granite Springs Campground, Horse Creek, Yellow Pine Campground and The Buttes.

This includes Interstate 80 in Wyoming between mile markers 319 and 345.

The NWS says that drivers should turn around when encountering flooded roads and said most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
