The Cheyenne City Council Finance Committee on Monday gave it's approval to proposed water and sewer rate increases Monday, but declined to endorse a sanitation fee increase.

All the rate increases will all go before the full city council, which is meting Tuesday night next week because of the Memorial Day Holiday on Monday. The water and sewer fee increases are tied to the Consumer Price Index for Southeast Wyoming, which showed a 3.4 percent increase at the end of 2012 compared to 2011. The BOPU is also asking for a five cent per 1000 gallon charge to pay for engineering fees on a sewer project. BOPU Director Tim Wilson says that would bring the total sewer rate increase to about 4.6%.

When the committee considered the sanitation fee increase of 3.4 percent however, the proposal died for the lack of a second in committee. But the full council will still have the final word on the subject, despite the lack of Finance Committee support.
