Fighting While Driving Causes Fatal Accident

A couple who were fighting while driving resulted in the death of a man from Sidney, Neb., during a single-vehicle crash seven miles south of Douglas on July 29, according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Daniel Poole, 34, was the front seat passenger in a SUV driven by Brittany Poole, 28, who also is from Sidney, according to the news release from Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.

They were arguing while driving north on Interstate 25.

At 10:35 p.m., Daniel Poole reached over and jerked the steering wheel, which caused the vehicle to go into a skid, leave the highway, trip, and roll multiple times.

He was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

She was not wearing her seat belt, was injured and taken to the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas where she has been hospitalized.

Children Gavin Poole, Ava Poole and Alyssa Poole were properly restrained. Gavin was injured and taken to a hospital in Denver. The two other children were not injured.

The Highway Patrol is investigating fighting in the vehicle as the contributing factor in the crash.

Daniel Poole marked the 83rd highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015. There were 83 fatalities in this same time period in 2014.
