Federal Judges Hand Down Sentences

Federal judges in Wyoming had a busy week as they sentenced seven men and one woman for crimes including Social Security fraud and child pornography, according to a news release from the Wyoming U.S. Attorney's Office.

Paul Allen Miller, 25, of Mills was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on Thursday for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He received 2.5 years imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised probation. This case was investigated by the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Erin Meyen, 41, of Cheyenne was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal on Monday for willful conversion of supplemental Social Security Income benefits. Meyen unlawfully used Social Security benefits meant to support her disabled son. She received two years of supervised probation and was ordered to pay $47,468.95 in restitution. This case was investigated by the U.S. Social Security Administration, Office of the Inspector General.
Eric D. Cox, 37, of Riverton was sentenced by Skavdahl on Monday for possession of child pornography. He received three years imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised probation. Restitution will be determined at a later date. This case was investigated by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Joshua James, 35, of Loveland, Colo., was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson on Monday for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. James received 14 years imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised probation. This case was investigated by the DCI.
Craig Thomas Rodgers, 60, of Cheyenne was sentenced by Skavdahl on May 29, for failure to register as a sex offender. He received two years, four months imprisonment, to be followed by a lifetime term of supervised probation. This case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Roger Prado, 34, of Torrington was sentenced by Johnson on May 29, 2015, for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams of methamphetamine. He received five years, two months imprisonment, to be followed by four years of supervised probation. This case was investigated by the DCI.
Juan Diaz-Canedo, 39, of Mexico, was sentenced by Johnson on May 29 for illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien into the United States. Diaz-Canedo was arrested in Jackson. He received time served plus ten days, and is subject to deportation upon release from custody. This case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Ausencio Lopez-Martinez, 25, of Mexico, was sentenced by Skavdahl on May 29 for illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien. Lopez-Martinez was arrested in Cheyenne. He received time served plus ten days, and is subject to deportation upon release from custody. This case was investigated by ICE.
