A Colorado man has been indicted on federal bank robbery charges in connection with the robbery of the Warren Federal Credit Union on the South Greeley Highway on Feb. 29.

Charging documents in the case accuse Christopher Dean Bandstra of holding up the credit union, which is located in the Safeway Store at 700 South Greeley Highway, using  what looked like a semi-automatic pistol. Bandstra allegedly slipped a clerk a note demanding money, and left the store after getting about $1,800.

Bandstra allegedly drove away in a 1978 Volkswagen van with Colorado plates. Investigators say they later found the van had been reported as stolen. The van was reportedly seen several times in the Cheyenne area over the following weeks. Investigators say they eventually identified Bandstra , who was reportedly a transient who spent time in Boulder and Fort Collins, Colorado as driving the van.

He was in jail in Fort Collins in April when he was interviewed by an FBI agent, who says Bandstra was "uncooperative" and said he didn't know anything about the robbery.

But employees of the credit union picked him out of a lineup in May, according to the documents. The FBI agent also allegedly interviewed another transient, Troy Montgomery, who claimed Bandstra had given him a ride on the day of the robbery.

Montgomery allegedly said Bandstra told him he was planning to rob a bank. Montgomery also allegedly picked Bandstra out of a lineup.

Bandstra was indicted in June and faces charges in U.S, District Court in Cheyenne. A federal court clerk said on Friday that no further court date has yet been set for Bandstra, and that he remains in custody.

A spokesman for the U.S, Marshals Service said Friday Bandstra was being held in Scottsbluff, Nebr.
