An Idaho man was arrested Tuesday after leading authorities on a high-speed chase over some 91 miles on Interstate 80.

Jason Carr, 33, of Marsing, Idaho, was booked on several unspecified criminal charges following the pursuit, according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The Patrol says at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, a trooper saw a 2017 Ford Explorer traveling at 91 mph in a 75-mph speed zone on I-80. The trooper stopped the SUV for speeding at milepost 224.

During the traffic stop, the trooper became suspicious of potential drug possession and asked a K-9 team from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office to assist.

The drug dog reportedly alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the SUV. But when troopers tried to get everyone — Carr, his girlfriend and her two children, ages seven and two — out of the Ford, Carr allegedly started the vehicle and sped off.

At several points throughout the pursuit, speeds exceeded 110 mph. The chase continued for 91 miles before the Explorer ran out of gas around mile post 133 near Rock Springs.

Carr then allegedly got out of the Ford and took off on foot. Troopers were able to catch up and arrest him.

Carr is currently booked into the Carbon County Jail. The two children were taken into protective custody by the Wyoming Department of Family Services.

A search of the Ford allegedly turned up suspected methamphetamine and other unspecified drug contraband.

The Patrol has not released further details.
