CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The developer of a wind farm near Glenrock says the 46-turbine facility will be operational by the end of the year.

sPower spokeswoman Naomi Keller says work began on the 80-megawatt Pioneer Wind Park in February and commercial operations will start sometime this year. Salt Lake City-based sPower took over ownership of the wind farm from Wasatch Wind in August.

The company still faces challenges to completing the project.

Keller says sPower is working to get a permit from wildlife officials to ensure birds are protected from the turbines. The company is also involved in a lawsuit brought by the Northern Laramie Range Alliance, alleging sPower doesn't have the financial capacity to construct the project.

The suit is before the Converse County District Court.
