Denver Art Museum Acquiring 22 Masterworks from Colorado Collector

When was the last time you visited the Denver Art Museum?

The next time you're there you might get a chance to see masterworks by some of the most famous French impressionists, like Claude Monet and Paul Cezanne, thanks to a Colorado collector and philanthropist.The Denver Art Museum will be acquiring 22 paintings from the collection of Frederic Hamilton. The donation will triple the museum's selections from the French impressionists era and will include it's first pieces by Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne and other notable late 19th-century artists.

The artwork is currently part of the 'Passport To Paris' exhibitions on display through February 9. 'Nature as Muse' features 36 landscape paintings from the private collection of Frederic C. Hamilton along with some of the Denver Art Museum's own pieces. This is the first time masterworks from Hamilton's private collection have been on view to the public.

The 22 landscapes being donated by Hamilton include works by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edouard Manet, Camille Pissarro and Eugene Boudin. The paintings will be returned to their owner after the 'Passport To Paris' exhibition ends in February and the museum will officially take possession when Hamilton dies.

Although the donation has not been formally appraised, it is thought to be worth as much as $100 million.
