The Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority is working on plans for a walking tour of historic downtown Cheyenne during Cheyenne Frontier Days.

DDA Director Christie Depoorter says the tour is being developed to help replace the traditional Cheyenne Day performance by the Air Force Thunderbirds at CFD. The Thunderbirds won't be performing at Cheyenne Frontier Days this year for the first time since 1953, due to federal sequestration budget cuts.

Depoorter says the exact route and specific details of the tour have yet to be fleshed out, but the basic theme will be the history of Cheyenne and landmarks pertaining to that history. Depoorter says she envisions the tour as being interesting not only to visitors, but also to residents who may not be aware of much of the history of the downtown Cheyenne area.

The DDA board of Directors has allocated $5000 to develop the tour, and Depoorter says a proposed plan will be presented to the board early next month to allow implementation of the tour on July 24, which is this year's Cheyenne Day at CFD.
