Davis Elementary Students Will Start School in New Building

Davis Elementary students will begin school in their new building when classes start next Tuesday, August 25.

Laramie County School District 1 officials did a walk-through of the new school Monday morning.

"We're going to go ahead and open school at the Davis facility, rather than having students go to the Eastridge site and then to Davis," said Superintendent John Lyttle.  "We're just very pleased that we're going to be able to get the kids and staff in it, it's a very beautiful facility."

Lyttle says there are still some punch list items that need to be completed, but they should be "good to go" for the first day of school.

"We've got an occupancy certificate from the city, so that means all the major electrical, plumbing and major construction items are done," said Lyttle. "They're still working on landscaping, but that won't effect the operation of school if we don't get all that done."

Construction on the new elementary began in the spring of 2014, forcing staff and students to relocate to the Eastridge wing of Carey Junior High School during the 2014-2015 school year.

"We had some serious cracking and those kinds of things going on with the old Davis," said Lyttle.  "It's nice that our kids will have a nice, new, fresh facility with state-of-the-art equipment and things in it that I think will enhance student learning."

An open house for parents and students will be held on Monday, August 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  A public grand opening celebration will be held later this fall.
