The Director of Information Technology for Cheyenne Regional Medical Center says the hospital is taking every possible precaution to guard patient information.

Jody Siltzer says hospital patient information is often more detailed and comprehensive than bank or credit card information and is an especially prized target for hackers and identity thieves. So he says CRMC takes numerous precautions to protect it.

Siltzer says that includes such things as encrypting data bases, mobile device information  and transmissions of patient information. Other measures include such low-tech measures as locking rooms were personal information is stored and controlling access to those areas.

He says other security precautions include penetration testing and risk analysis, including unannounced drills involving outside companies to evaluate the hospital's cybersecurity systems.
