Crandall Delays Resignation from Ariz. Legislature

PHOENIX (AP) — Wyoming's new education director is delaying his resignation from the Arizona Legislature to maintain health insurance coverage for two of his children.

The Arizona Capitol Times reports that Rich Crandall started work in Wyoming on Aug. 5 and had planned to have his resignation from the Arizona Senate take effect Aug. 16.

However, Crandall says that's changed because his health insurance coverage in Arizona ends immediately upon his resignation and his new coverage in Wyoming doesn't begin until Sept. 1.

Crandall now plans to resign as an Arizona legislator effective Aug. 31.

He says he can't allow a lapse in coverage because two of his children have pre-existing medical conditions.

The Arizona Legislature is not in session currently.

The process of appointing a replacement begins once Crandall resigns.
