The road was tough for both Wyoming basketball teams last weekend, as they Cowgirls lost a tight one, while the Cowboys were soundly beaten.

Despite 15 three-pointers, the Wyoming Cowgirls lost at St. Mary’s last Friday night, 90-84. A late 12-2 run by the Gaels helped them surge by UW. St. Mary’s shot 68 percent from the field.

Five Cowgirls scored in double figures led by senior Marta Gomez with 23 points. Freshman Quinn Weidemann added a career-best 20 points in only her second career game. She made six three-pointers. Taylor Rusk had 13 points, while freshman Karla Erjavec and senior Rachelle Tucker chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Wyoming (1-1) returns home for their next game versus UCCS Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. from the Arena-Auditorium.

Wyoming Cowboys

The Cowboys lost their second game of the season at Oregon State Saturday, 83-64.

Justin James had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists in the loss. It was his second consecutive double-double. He nearly became the third player in school history with a triple-double. The nine assists are the most for a Wyoming men’s player since Jan. 16, 2010, when JayDee Luster had nine versus New Mexico.

Jake Hendricks had a career-high 14 points, while freshman Brandon Porter scored a career-best 10 points, while Hunter Maldonado added 10 points off the bench.

A 19-2 run in the first half gave the Beavers the lead for good. UW trimmed it to 41-32 at the half and scored the first points of the second half. The Pokes then went 1-10 from the field after that, while Oregon State built a 58-39 edge.

Tres Tinkle had 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Beavers.

Wyoming (0-2) is back at home Wednesday in search of their first win. They host Grambling State at 7 p.m.
