For the first time since 2008 the Wyoming Cowgirls have started conference play 3-0 thanks to a 70-48 victory over Fresno State Wednesday night in Laramie.

Liv Roberts scored 24 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to lead Wyoming to its fifth straight win. In fact, no current Cowgirl had ever beaten Fresno State. This victory snapped a six-game win streak in the series for the Bulldogs.

A 21-point UW lead in the first half was trimmed to 10 points by Fresno State late in the third quarter. Marta Gomez sank a three with 22 seconds left that put the Cowgirls up 51-38.

Three big 3-pointers early in the fourth iced for Wyoming. Roberts sank a corner three, and then freshman Taylor Rusk hit three’s on back-to-back possessions that put UW ahead 60-42.

Wyoming (11-3, 3-0) shot 46 percent from the field. They finished with a 20 assists on 27 field goals and held a 38-30 rebounding edge over the Bulldogs.

Fresno State (8-6, 1-2) was led by Tory Jacobs 19 points. They shot only 39 percent from the field. Leading scorer and rebounder Bego Faz Davalos was held to eight points and 2 boards due to foul trouble.

The Cowgirls next game is Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Utah State.
