Central Wyoming Counseling Center [CWCC} in Casper is offering free depression screenings from October 6 through October 11.

The screenings are in conjunction with National Depression Screening Week, which is designed to educate people about symptoms and effective treatment of depression. Symptoms include sleeping too little or too much, persistent sad, anxious or "empty" moods, early morning awakening, marked weight loss or weight gain, difficulty in making decisions and a number of other issues.

Depression can be debilitating and severe cases can lead to suicide, with 30,000 Americans taking their own lives each year, according to CWCC.

One in four women and one in ten men experience depression at some point in their lives, and about 2/3 of victims never seek treatment. Even though depression is extremely common, it is also considered to be among the most treatable of mental illnesses.

Central Wyoming Counseling Center, located at 1430 Wilkins Wilkins Circle in Casper, is offering the confidential screenings from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday through Saturday.
