The City of Cheyenne Urban Forestry Department is warning tree owners about the dangers of spring snowstorms such as the one hitting the area this weekend,

The department says heavy spring snow and freezing rain can be too much for some tree limbs, especially if the limb is weak or has areas of decay. Mark Ellison, the Assistant Director of Urban Forestry, advises tree owners to use a broom or similar object to remove snow accumulation, especially on smaller trees.

Broken limbs can hurt tree health by allowing disease or insects to enter through the opening. He's also reminding people not to park their cars under snow-laden tree limbs because the limbs may fall on the vehicle and cause damage.

Ellison also says broken limbs that are still attached to trees should be removed as quickly as possible. Those kind of limbs can fall of at any time, and the property owner will be responsible for any damage to vehicles, people, and any objects that might be damaged.
