City of Cheyenne Urban Forestry crews will begin spraying Pine and Spruce trees on city maintained property Monday to protect the trees from mountain pine beetles and other pests.

Assistant Urban Forestry Director Randy Overstreet says the spraying will begin at 4am and wrap up around noon. The spraying will only be conducted on warm days with relatively little wind.

Overstreet advises people who see the crews at work to give them plenty of room and avoid breathing in the spray, although he adds it is only mildly toxic and not likely to make anyone seriously ill. Overstreet says the first area sprayed will be Lions Park, to be followed by areas in North Cheyenne. The crews will gradually make their way south over the next three weeks or so, wrapping up in South Cheyenne.
