The Cheyenne City Council is scheduled to consider reducing the speed limit in some areas of the city from 30 mph to 25 at it's regular meeting Monday night.

The change would apply to areas of the city where there is no posted speed limit, including many residential areas. Cheyenne Police Department spokesman officer Dan Long recently said that agency gets a lot of complaints about motorists driving too fast, especially in areas where there are a lot of children. The council Public Service Committee recently voted in favor of the change, but the final decision rests with the full city council.

The council is also scheduled to consider a proposal to give a $500 "recognition payment" to city employees who were working for the city full time through fiscal year 2014. Mayor Rick Kaysen says the payment is to reward city employees for their role in helping the city come in $1.2 million under projections in fiscal year 2014.

Employees who worked part time or only part of the fiscal year would receive lesser payments under the plan.

The meeting is slated for 6 p.m. Monday in City Council Chambers.
