We remember him as the bald, black man in the white suit with the Jamaican accent telling us about the "Un-cola" 7-Up.  The man's real name was Geoffrey Holder who has passed away in Manhattan over the weekend, at the ripe age of 84.

He grew up north of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and had a bad stammering problem in his early age. He broke into show business on Broadway doing opera's and ballet.

In the 1980's, 7-Up hired him to promote their product with his deep, rich, memorable voice, white suit and big smile. He stated that he never regretted doing the commercials, as a matter of fact, he never considered the role below him.

Holder also starred in The Wiz, Annie, Live and Let Die and Doctor Dolittle.
