Have you ever attended Cheyenne's Greek Festival?

This year marks Cheyenne's 29th annual display of Greek culture and culinary delights at the Frontier Park Exhibition Hall on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19.

The Greek Festival kicks off Friday afternoon, September 18, at 4 until 10 p.m. and continues Saturday, September 19, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission and parking are free. You'll be able to taste authentic Greek foods such as kalamari, gyros, souvlaki and loukaniko.

My favorite part of the Greek Festival each year is all the Greek pastries. I love to pick up my annual treat of sweet Baklava. There's also Greek breads and Yiayia's Greek Coffee Shop and the Taverna. You can even enter a drawing to win a trip for two to Greece.

The annual celebration would not be complete without the Greek dancers in authentic costumes dancing to traditional songs played by the Chris Dokos Trio out of Salt Lake City. Performances by the Little Athenians of Cheyenne and the Cheyenne Greek Dancers are scheduled for 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday at 12:30, 2:30 and 5:30 p.m.

The Greek Festival began as a fundraising bazaar and luncheon for the church nearly 30 years ago and has grown into a popular annual event in Cheyenne. Proceeds from the event still help out the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Christian Church of Cheyenne.  The main sponsor of this year's event is Tyrrell-Doyle Auto Centers.
