A 43 year old Cheyenne woman was killed in a single vehicle crash Wednesday morning on I-80 about 12 miles east of Laramie in Albany County.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says the dtiver, 49 year old Cheyenne resident James Evans, was westbound on I-80 in the right lane. Black ice conditions exsisted on the roadway and Evans lost control of the vehicle as it started to rotate towards the right shoulder. Evans steered to the left and over corrected the steering back to the right causing the vehicle to rotate clockwise and go into a broadside slide. The truck left the roadway on the right side going into the borrow ditch. The vehicle rolled 2 times going down a steep embankment coming to rest on top of the right of way fence. Wendy Shires, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected through the passenger side window during the rollovers. Shires was declared dead at the scene. Evans was transported to Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

Troopers investigating this crash are looking into speed too fast for the existing conditions as a contributing factor. Upon completion of the crash invetigation all information will be turned over to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office for their review. That office will make the final determination as to the filing of any criminal charges in this fatal crash.
