A Cheyenne woman who stabbed her ex-boyfriend in the back with a steak knife in May has been sentenced to five years of first-offender probation.

Twenty-six-year-old Pamela Deguzman was sentenced Thursday in Laramie County District Court.

Deguzman was initially charged with aggravated assault, which carries a maximum sentence of up to ten years in prison, but the charge was reduced to a single count of possession of a deadly weapon with unlawful intent as part of a plea deal.

The prosecution argued that the case warranted a prison sentence of three to five years, but Judge Catherine Rogers accepted the defense's recommendation to put Deguzman on probation.

If she successfully completes her probation, Deguzman will be able to keep the felony conviction off her criminal record.
