Cheyenne Residents Can Help Curb Neighborhood Speeding

Cheyenne police are encouraging residents who are concerned about drivers speeding through their neighborhoods to take an active role in helping solve the problem.

Lt. Nathan Buseck says concerned citizens can collect speed data by checking out a radar unit through the police department's Neighborhood Speed Watch Program.

"It sort of educates them on what they think is speeding versus what may or may not be," said Buseck.

Buseck says often times people think drivers are speeding when they're not.

"Their perception may be, 'I think that guy's going 40 mph,'" said Buseck. "When you actually use the equipment and see that they're going 28 mph or 25 mph it sort of changes your perception."

Buseck says while no formal citations or fines are issued through the program, data collected may be used to assign officers for selective enforcement.
