Cheyenne Ranked One Of The Best ‘State Capitals To Live In’

Cheyenne isn't hip and trendy like Austin, Boise, and Denver, but it sure beats living in Trenton, New Jersey. A new study ranks Cheyenne as the 9th-best state capital to live in.

Cheyenne was the most affordable state capital in the study, had the second-highest median household income adjusted for cost of living, ranked third for the "economic well being" of residents, and has the fifth lowest percentage of citizens living under the poverty line. On the other side, Cheyenne had the longest average workweek in the study and the second-highest percentage of debt to income.

Austin claimed the top spot in the Capital City study, followed by Boise, Raleigh, Madison, and Lincoln. Denver finished in eighth place overall, just ahead of Cheyenne.

Wyoming's Capital City outranked several larger communities, including Des Moines, Salt Lake City, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Nashville, Sacramento, Honolulu, Boston, and Indianapolis.

Baton Rouge ranked last in the study.  Jackson, Miss., Trenton, Hartford, and Charleston, West Virginia, round the five worst state capitals to live in.
