With the dry conditions and extreme fire danger, the Cheyenne Police Department will have a "zero tolerance" policy toward people who shoot off fireworks within the city limits this year.

Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Sgt. Rob Dafoe says city code prohibits the possession, storing, sale or use of fireworks, even on private property within the city limits.  Dafoe says the municipal judges have also doubled the fine for violators of the city's fireworks ordinance, in conjunction with the Laramie County Fire ban.

Dafoe says additional police officers will be on-duty specifically to address fireworks offenders and ticket violators. He says Cheyenne police receive in excess of 250 calls for service regarding fireworks every year around the 4th of July holiday.
