The Wyoming Association of Municipalities (WAM) will be awarding the Cheyenne
Police Department its Community Hero Award, recognizing the CPD’s fundraising efforts for the Wyoming Law Enforcement Memorial.

WAM will be presenting the award to the CPD at Little America at 7:00 PM on Friday,
June 12.

The WAM Community Hero Award recognizes agencies and organizations throughout Wyoming which demonstrated community involvement and successfully involved other groups and organizations in the completion
of a project.

The CPD has won this award four times prior to this years’ award. Previous awards were for the CPD’s volunteer program, the Citizen’s Police Academy, Neighborhood Night Out, and CPD’s Graffiti Abatement Program.

Beginning in 2014, the CPD organized the Wyoming Law Enforcement Memorial 5k Run. This 5K fundraiser wasdeveloped to enhance the fundraising efforts of the Law Enforcement Memorial Fund that was established in
2011.

This  charity was organized in Cheyenne to raise funds towards the design and production of a bronze sculpture that will honor all Fallen Wyoming Peace Officers. It will be created by a Wyoming artist and will be  displayed within Cheyenne.

The inaugural run in 2014 was attended by over 250 runners supported by over 300 volunteers and the course ran through downtown Cheyenne, finishing at the Depot Plaza.
