With warmer weather hitting southeast Wyoming, the Cheyenne Police Department is reminding motorists of their responsibility to keep an eye out for cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists.

Officer Dan Long says along with warmer weather comes more people using modes of transportation other than cars, and long with that there is an obligation for people behind the wheel to be vigilant and keep an eye out.

Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak, who often rides a motorcycle in warm weather, has noted in past interviews that motorists sometimes don't seem to see motorcycles or look out for them very well.

As recently as last Summer a motorcyclist lost a leg as a result of a collision with a car, and fatal accidents involving motorcycles colliding with or being hit by cars have happened several times across Wyoming in recent years.

Long says that while serious collisions involving cars hitting cyclists or pedestrians haven't been especially common in Cheyenne over the last few years, there is a high potential for death or serious injury when such accidents do occur.

It's especially a safety concern with children, who will be out more in coming months, especially when school closes for the Summer. But adult cyclists, joggers and pedestrians can also be at risk,
