Cheyenne Police are warning people about a person who is using a device known as a skimmer to get people's credit and debit card information.

Lt. Rob Dafoe says the device is placed near a business and allows the criminal to obtain credit or debit card information as people are making purchases. The information is later used to make unauthorized purchases. Dafoe says the thefts have been reported up and down the front range as well as Sam's Club in Cheyenne.

Dafoe says the suspect is believed to be a 45 year old black man, about 5'10 and around 200 pounds. Dafoe says he has been tentatively identified as James Tillis, but adds that may or may not be his real name.

Dafoe also cautions that this is the type of crime where the criminal may not be seen by the victim.

He says the best defense is to constantly check your debit and credit card account information. He also warns people to look out for suspicious devices around gas pumps and similar locations where business is being conducted.
