A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says officers will be closely watching for traffic violations in school zones next week.

Officer Dan Long is reminding people that passing a school bus when it has it's flashing red lights on is illegal and carries a potential $400 fine. This year the buses have been equipped with cameras to catch people illegally passing the buses, and Long says tickets will be written because of the camera recordings.

He says officers will also be watching for motorists who violate the 20 mile per hour speed limit in school zones, as well as those who don't yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. People who speed in school zones are liable for fines of up to $360.

Classes start in Laramie County School District #1 on Tuesday, August 25.
