Many Cheyenne Police officers will be wearing a special badge in 2017 to mark the 150th year of both the Cheyenne Police Department as well that the city of Cheyenne.

Police spokesman Kevin Malatesta says Chief Brian Kozak has authorized the wearing of the badge pictured above, which is a replica of the one worn by Officer Edwards of the CPD when he was killed in the line of duty in 1907.

The city of Cheyenne was founded in 1867 and the Cheyenne Police Department was launched just a few days later.

Current Cheyenne Police officers purchased the historic badges with their own money, and are allowed to wear them as well as the current official CPD badge through 2017.
