The Cheyenne Police Department will begin enforcing changes to the city's alarm ordinance on Thursday.

Officer Dan Long says the city's code enforcement officer will start issuing $200 citations for anyone not complying with the changes which went into effect on September 1, 2013. The revisions require every alarm user to get an Alarm System Permit within 30 days of activation. Applications and a $100 activation fee must be submitted to the City Clerk's office.

Alarms that had yearly permits issued before September 1, 2013 can be converted on the alarms renewal date with a payment of $25. The changes in the ordinance are aimed at reducing the number of false alarms police have to respond to.
