Applications for anyone interested in becoming a Cheyenne Police officer are due by October 5, according to Officer Dan Long.

He says the department will be testing officer candidates on October 7 and 8. But passing those tests is only the first step. Long says applicants must also pass a stringent background check, physical fitness tests, oral board examinations and a three month course at the state Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas.

He says the total process of becoming a police officer takes about a year. Long says information on how to apply is available at the police department website.
