Despite a decline in the number of officers on patrol, Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak says the department's response time to crimes in progress is good.

Kozak says the department's average response time is nearly three minutes faster than the national average.

"From the time an officer gets the call to their on-scene for an in-progress call is just a little bit over two minutes, which is pretty fast," said Kozak. "The national average is five minutes, so we're doing real good there."

Kozak says officers have also done a good job of controlling traffic accidents. He says the department has seen a significant drop in crashes over the past six years, particularly drunk driving crashes.
