A Cheyenne man is behind bars after firing his handgun into the ground.

33-year-old Jason Roush was arrested Thursday night after Cheyenne Police responded to a fight at 4303 Ontario Avenue in northeast Cheyenne.

Officer Dan Long says police responded to the residence around 9:00 p.m. and told Roush to stay away from the home or he'd be trespassing.

"Later in the night officers got called back there for the report that Roush was back at that residence and when officers arrived on scene Roush had left the area," said Long. "While officers were doing their investigation they heard a gunshot from down in the area where Roush lives. They went to his residence and as they were approaching the house they heard another gunshot."

Roush admitted to firing his handgun into the ground.  He was charged with discharging a firearm, disobeying police, trespassing and fighting.

Long says it's unclear what prompted the fight or Roush to fire his gun, but alcohol was a factor. The case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
