Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak says his department will be targeting drunk drivers through the rest of this month with a special emphasis planned for the New Year's Eve holiday.

The chief says the department's designated DUI officer and other officers are already on the streets and will continue actively looking for drunk drivers through Christmas, this weekend and the days leading up to New Year's next week.

The chief says the regional DUI Task Force will be activated on New Year's Eve.

That task force includes the Laramie County Sheriff's Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol and law enforcement from state parks as well as Cheyenne Police joining together in a cooperative enforcement effort.

Chief Kozak says the Police Department's DUI van will also be activated for New Year's Eve.

The van allows for quicker processing  of DUI suspects on site, allowing law enforcement officers to get back on the street looking for drunk drivers more quickly
