With the first day of classes in Laramie County School District#1 scheduled for Tuesday, August 26, a spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says officers will be watching school zones closely.

Lt. Rob Dafoe says officers will be out in force looking for traffic violators in school zones. He also reminds motorists to be aware of speed limits in construction zones, especially near schools. Dafoe also says it's important to remember that traffic is required to stop in both directions anytime a school bus has stopped and is flashing it's red lights.

Dafoe says the law on school buses is a state rather than a local law, but he says police get quite a few reports of people ignoring the flashing lights, especially during the first few days of school.
