The Cheyenne Police Department will hold it's sixth annual "Neighborhood Night Out" on Tuesday July 14th.

Spokesman officer Dan Long says  a planning meeting for block captains is slated for Tuesday, June 2 at 6 p.m. at the Kiwanis Community House in Lion's Park.

Long says the meeting is for both returning block captains as well as anyone interested in being one for the first time. Long says the only real qualification needed to be a block captain is the willingness to host a block party.

He says the parties are useful from a law enforcement viewpoint because they allow people to get to know their neighbors as well as local police.

He says knowing your neighbors is helpful because it allows you to recognize who belongs in your neighborhood as opposed to outsiders who may be there to commit crimes
