Cheyenne Police Dedicate Officer To DUI Cases

(Jon Green/TSM)

A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says that agency now has an officer who will be dedicated only to DUI enforcement.

Officer Dan Long says Matt Chernak will be a full-time DUI officer, working Wednesdays through Saturdays. Long says that while Chernak will mostly be working in traffic enforcement, he will also be available to respond to calls for service.

Long says one of the advantages of having an officer dedicated to DUI cases is that he can take over investigation of those cases, allowing officers on DUI cases to move on to other responsibilities.

Long says that while the department has taken several steps in the past to upgrade DUI enforcement, including overtime for DUI enforcement, this will be the first time one officer in the department has been dedicated only to working DUI cases.
