The Fourth of July is typically one of the busiest days of the year for Cheyenne police, and yesterday was no exception.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says the holiday kept police twice as busy as normal.

"Typically we would have about 200 calls for service on a regular day," said Malatesta. "Yesterday we had 400 calls for service and actually a quarter of those were fireworks calls."

"I'm sure we had a number of officer-initiated activity where they saw fireworks going off that wouldn't be counted in those numbers," he added.

Malatesta says officers confiscated a large number of fireworks and made two DUI arrests last night, but fortunately weren't called to anything major.

"It seems like everybody for the most part behaved themselves -- aside from the fireworks -- and they weren't causing too much trouble," he said.
