A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says the Neighborhood Night Out held Tuesday night was well-attended and achieved all of the goals the department had set.

Officer Dan Long says there were 23 neighborhood block parties across the city, and they appeared to be well attended. He says in many cases neighbors were able to get to know each other for the first time. Long says the law-enforcement value of that is that it gives people an idea about who belongs in a certain area and who doesn't--and whether a call to police is justified.

Long also says police were able to get to know a number of local residents, which is good in terms of community involvement and opening the lines of communication between the public and police.

2014 marked the fifth annual Cheyenne Neighborhood Night Out.
