A former missile alert facility that will offer visitors tours just north of Cheyenne is expected to open sometime this summer, according to Visit Cheyenne President Darren Rudloff.

The Quebec 1 Missile Alert Facility has been undergoing renovations for the past couple of years by F.E. Warren Air Force Base personnel and will offer people a first-hand look at a cold-war era missile site.

Between the mid-1980s and 2005, the facility was used to command a Peacekeeper missile. it was then decommissioned as part of a treaty agreement with Russia.

A report on the site conducted for the Wyoming Legislature predicted the site could draw somewhere between 50,000 and 80,000 visitors per year.

Rudloff said that while the museum is expected to open this summer, an exact opening date has not yet been announced.
