As Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen continues to work on his proposed budget for fiscal year 2017, he says he's not looking at any layoffs of city employees.

But the mayor during his monthly news conference on Thursday also didn't completely rule out the idea.

Kaysen left the possibility open saying " I have to be very frank, there are no guarantees until you get to that final number as far as expenditures as well as revenues."

Kaysen has said several times the city faces a tight budget picture, as do most local governments across the state.

The mayor says he has met with city department heads to get their budget requests and is now comparing those numbers with city revenues to see how to make the numbers balance.

Kaysen says he expects to take about two months working on the budget with the idea of presenting it to the city council in mid-May.

The council has the final word on the proposal, and needs to approve a final city budget by the end of June.

Fiscal year 2017 takes effect on July 1, 2016.
